Contract workers: The STTRC can guide you through negotiating and interpreting your contracts

With spring finally on the horizon, many STTRC members may negotiate a new contract for the upcoming season.

Be aware that there are more Radio-Canada employees who are required to sign one or more contracts during their careers than we might think. This includes recurring and freelance contract workers, as well as temporary or permanent staff working on special projects.

The STTRC offers an advisory service to help you negotiate your contracts. The collective agreement provides for the right to negotiate higher pay or more favorable working conditions. And regardless of what the Employer’s initial approach — “I’m sending you a contract to sign” — might lead you to believe, there is indeed room for negotiation.

If you would like advice on negotiating your contract, please write to sttrc@sttrc.ca.

The contracts should apply only to the job titles listed in Article 48.1 of the collective bargaining agreement.
