Another CBC/Radio-Canada Pension Plan Surplus in 2025

The Board of Trustees of the CBC/Radio-Canada Pension Plan has confirmed that the Pension Plan once again posted a surplus for the year ending December 31, 2025. This surplus will again be distributed among eligible Plan members.

The Pension Plan’s actuarial valuation report is expected to be submitted to government authorities by the end of April, officially initiating the distribution process, and the distribution is expected to take place later this year.

As previously announced by CBC/Radio-Canada, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) has authorized the Corporation to apply the consent of current and former Plan members for the distribution of the 2023 surplus to any surpluses generated in the following five consecutive years.

However, this decision does not exempt CBC/Radio-Canada from obtaining OSFI authorization to withdraw the surplus from the Plan.

As was the case with the distribution of the 2024 surplus, we encourage CBC/Radio-Canada Union members to monitor their work email inboxes this fall.

You will receive a personalized information package from the “CBC Pension Administration” account, which will include information on the amount to be received, how it was calculated, and a frequently asked questions section (including how to transfer a payment, in part or in full, to the CBC/Radio-Canada Group RRSP).

Asserting your rights pays off!

This money didn’t fall from the sky. All the unions and the Retirees’ Association compelled CBC/Radio-Canada to share the pension plan surplus following an arbitration decision.

Since 2021, active plan members, retirees, and beneficiaries have shared $250 million. Radio-Canada also received $250 million, which it was able to invest in its operations.
